An interview with WCWFC S&C Coach Hannah Jones
We asked Strength and Conditioning Coach Hannah Jones about her journey in her first season with us at Worcester City Women and how she demonstrates being ‘exceptional’ in her role at the club.
What made you want to get involved with Worcester City Women’s FC?
I love sports, football in particular, and jumped at the opportunity to get involved with an amazing women’s club. I loved their story, the progression they’d made, and all they do for the community and promoting sport for young girls.
How would you sum up your first season at the club in three words?
To sum up my first season in 3 words, I would have to say...
• Exciting
• Determined
• Beasts
What’s been your proudest moment this season?
Seeing Emma Congrave return to running and join in training.
What do you love most about being part of the team?
I love all the different personalities and getting to know each and every one of the girls. They’re all such great people, and it’s a pleasure to be part of the team that coaches them. I love that they don’t all necessarily like S&C, but they come over to my sessions with such great energy.
How have you seen the players grow throughout the season?
Closely linking to my previous comment about great energy around S&C, this is where I’ve noticed some great progression. Their fitness and strength on and off the ball have excelled this season, and there has actually been a lot of smiling in and around drills involving running and fitness, this is something I’m most proud of. There have been some real character-building moments this season, and some great triumphs to accompany, these combined have shaped the remarkable team we see today.
What does being “exceptional” mean to you in your role?
Exceptional to me means someone who never gives up. A key attribute I always rank higher than others is perseverance. As long as they’re giving their 100%, whatever their 100% looks like at that given time, I am very happy.
Are there any stand-out memories from the season?
Some stand-out memories for me have to be: Annie Highway wearing the bows I gave her when playing against Lincoln mid-season. On the same day, our 4-0 win was a well-deserved victory for the club. I also loved our game at Malvern Town against Loughborough, the girls dug deep and put on a great show of exactly what they could do! The girls have worked tirelessly this season to establish themselves in the National League, and moments like these have helped us all stay on track, work together and not lose sight of the end goal of retaining National League status.
What are you most looking forward to next season?
I’m most looking forward to seeing all the pieces we’ve built up this season be put together; to showcase the excellence we support in the development of at Worcester City Women FC.
