WFA County Cup Quarter Final - WCWFC 7 - 0 Kingfisher

WCWFC Starting 11

Worcester City Women’s first game of 2025 saw a thrilling 7-0 win with City’s captain, Jess Fassnidge getting herself a hattrick, goals from Holly Rogers, Leah Ritson, Keeley Crew and Olivia Mitcham as well as two new faces making their debut in Evie Billingsley and Jasmin Springer.

The first 20 minutes took some time for us to settle into the game despite an early chance through Mitcham meeting the hands of Kingfisher’s number one in the opening ten minutes as the City striker sought an opener.

With Kingfisher sitting in a low block, City’s chances weren’t able to reach the back of the net and with Kingfisher’s keeper poised and focused, City were unlucky not to have their chances pay off.

A short goal kick from Kingfisher allowed Fassnidge to win a header and see Mitcham free to slot in a powerful shot in the bottom corner, finally opening the scoreline in the home side's favour in the 26th minute.

On her debut, Billingsley looked very bright in front of goal and was unlucky not to get her first for the club on this occasion. The midfielder sought after City’s second but her curling shot was saved by the opposition’s keeper. In the 34th minute though, Annie Highway lifted the ball into the box following a corner and met the head of City’s captain who got her first of three with a brilliant flick-on header to add to City’s tally.

Worcester still remained in control of the game, dominating possession but Kingfisher defenders hung on strong blocking our efforts in their half. However, as the first half drew to a close, Keeley Crew used her strength to shield her defender away and dribbled past with ease, firing a ball in the box where Ritson was waiting at the back of the post and volleyed it home to make it 3-0 to City going into half-time.

Ritson started strong in the second half as well, but Kingfisher’s keeper remained steadfast in saving her shot. Despite this, in the 51st minute, a sharp turn away from her defender on the edge of the box meant Fassnidge could once again take her shot and comfortably placed the ball into the bottom corner from range, setting precedence in the second half.

Shortly after, in the 58th minute, Crew added City’s fifth to the scoreline. Mitcham received the ball and spotted Crew free, feeding her the ball so Crew could take a beautiful strike into the top corner.

As the second half progressed, City made some changes and in the 70th minute, Jasmine Springer came on for her debut at Sixways. In the 85th minute, City’s game-changers proved valuable as 20 minutes after coming on, Holly Rogers shot to find the top corner of the net after Billingsley played her through, battling past her defender and taking a deflection into goal.

A minute later, City’s captain Fassnidge finished the game off scoring herself a hat-trick after Springer worked hard in the final third to set the midfielder up for a fantastic first-time strike at the edge of the box, too powerful for the keeper to save.
